Taking a stand against fly-tipping during Tower Hamlets Council waste services strike

For the next two weeks, Tower Hamlets Council waste service workers and streetcleaners will strike (18 September - 1 October). Although we’ve put extra measures in place to minimise any disruption, residents can play their part by not fly-tipping:

Please continue to report any missed collections to the Council and fly-tipping incidents to the Police.

Together with our residents, we want to create places people are proud to call home. However, when there are cases of fly tipping, it results in creating untidy and unsafe spaces, that ultimately cost our residents.

Fly-tipping is when non-household rubbish like building materials, old clothes or bulky items like furniture and electrical goods are dumped in the wrong place. This includes spaces like communal areas or near bins.

Fly-tipping is a criminal offence for which you can be prosecuted. It’s against the law because it pollutes the environment. Additionally, it creates an untidy neighbourhood and potential fire safety hazards. Should a fire start near instances of fly tipping, a fire may spread quicker, or block someone’s escape route.

If you spot someone fly tipping, you should report it to the council in the first instance (London Borough Tower Hamlets).

Residents identified for fly-tipping have 48 hours to remove the waste; otherwise, our contractors will step in, and all block residents may incur service charge expenses.

Be a good neighbour; don’t end up costing your neighbours more money and help to keep our spaces tidy and safe.
