Accessibility

We care about making our services accessible, inclusive, and easy to use for all residents. Whether you need support with communication, translations, or alternative formats, we’re here to help.

Understanding each other

We know that clear communication is essential. We also know that Tower Hamlets is an extremely diverse and vibrant borough with a range of communities that speak different languages, and have different accessibility needs.

That's why we have accessibility services - they make sure we understand each other, whatever language we speak or format we need. Below you can find detail about the service we can provide.

Language support

If you need translation or interpretation of phone calls, meetings or documents into another language, we can provide:

  • Bengali support: we have team members who are native Bengali speakers. If they are available, they can assist you directly.
  • Phone and document support: we use LanguageLine UK, a professional interpretation and translation service, which includes:
    • Live interpretation: for phone and video calls, including BSL.
    • Document translation: into a wide range of languages.

Alternative formats

We believe everyone should be able to access information they need in a way that works for them. LanguageLine UK can also support with:

  • EasyRead versions of documents.
  • Large print for those with visual impairments.
  • Braille for blind or partially sighted residents.

These are just some of the formats they can support with, if you require something else, please feel free to ask us.

How to access support

Phone support: if you’re on a call with any member of staff, you can ask for language assistance. Let them know which language you require support with and they can connect a LanguageLine UK translator.

Document requests: to request translations or alternative formats, email us at accessibility@thch.org.uk.

We want to remove barriers and make sure every resident can access the support, information, and services they need. If you have any specific requests or feedback, don’t hesitate to let us know—your voice matters to us.
