Putting Fire Safety First At Winterton House
We recently hosted an event at Winterton House, one of our major high-rise buildings, as part of an initiative to involve the resident voice in major fire safety projects.
The series of events sees staff and local emergency services talk to residents about how to be safe from fire, helping them understand more about their building's evacuation plan and listening to their concerns and ideas on the issue.
Learning and talking about fire safety
The event had activities for everyone—children, families, and other residents of Winterton House. There was food, face painting, and a visit from Shadwell fire service.
Firefighters and residents spoke with children about how to keep their flats safe from fire, as well as what to do in the case of an emergency.
Neighbourhood Officers from THCH also attended so residents could talk about general concerns they have. These conversations are vital, helping us understand how residents are feeling and what we can do to better plan safety measures.
Future plans for fire safety
We have a large amount of high-rise buildings and are working on making them safer from fire risks. We have finished several projects already, with plans to complete 20 major ones by 2026.
Our commitment to making these upgrades shows how much we care about the safety and wellbeing of residents and including their voice in plans going forward.
Hosting future events
We will continue to host safety events at our other buildings. Everyone is welcome, and we’ll share when and where these events will happen on our website, as well as notifying the residents of the building by letter, email and text.
Why the resident opinion matters
These events help make sure that everyone knows how important safety is. By coming together to learn and share ideas, THCH and residents can create a safer, more connected community. This kind of teamwork helps make sure everyone feels listened to and involved in improving where they live.
